And what does this mean for her council seat? O’Rourke said she will still represent Ward 6 and hold her position as city councillor unless she is elected as MP. She said that we do not know when an election will be called at this time, but wants to be prepared.

She said it was the right time for her to run, with MP Lloyd Longfield not seeking re-election. He has represented ���߲ݴ�ýfor more than 10 years and officially announced his intention not to stand as a candidate this past June. O’Rourke said that she felt it was time she choose to back this progressive party and continue their work.

“I think that we need solutions and good policy, not sound bites,” she said.

She said Guelph’s support for the federal Liberal party has been shown over the past 30 years and the change has been found in the candidates and the issues the residents are facing as the city grows.

“I definitely think the Liberal party meets those concerns around housing affordability, climate change and inclusion,” O’Rourke said.

She said she has shown herself to be an effective representative and has the experience and skills to step it up.

“I have a really unique perspective on what cities need to meet challenges on the federal level,” she said.

This proud Franco-Ontarian said it is a privilege to do the work she does.

“For 27 years, I have been serving ���߲ݴ�ýas a volunteer and in the private, public and non-profit sectors,” O’Rourke said.
