New Year’s Eve falls on a Tuesday this year, so New Year’s Day Wednesday will be a quiet one right in the middle of the work week. Many businesses and grocery stores will be closed on Jan. 1, so it’s best to call, or plan ahead.
Here are some city services and businesses that have holiday hours
City services
The city of º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½will have no curbside waste collection on Jan. 1. If Wednesday is your regular day, you can expect your garbage to be picked up a day later. Thursday and Friday collections will also be bumped a day, so you can hold off on dragging your bins to the curb. Folks can check their calendar online if they have any questions at .
º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½Transit service will have free buses starting at 7 p.m. on Dec. 31 for New Year’s Eve celebrations. Extended service will begin at 12:45 a.m. on Jan. 1 and switch to six zoned routes running every 30 minutes. The last bus will leave º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½Central Station at 2:15 a.m. Holiday service will be on demand for New Year’s Day, from 9:15 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. Route 99 mainline will run every 30 minutes. All city administration offices, recreation and community centres and public library locations will be open for regular hours on Dec. 31, but all are set to be closed on Jan. 1.
Shopping and food
Your favourite store or local supermarket might close early on Dec. 31. Restaurants and bars could have special events planned for Dec. 31, so it’s best to call in advance. Most of them will be closed on Jan. 1.
Stone Road Mall will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Dec. 31 and closed on Jan. 1.
The Beer Store and LCBO locations will be closed on Jan. 1., but the standalone Wine Rack location at will be open on New Year’s Day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Ethnic Supermarket will be open for their regular hours, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on both days.
You can go to the Mandarin for lunch or dinner buffets at , subject to holiday pricing, on Dec. 31 or Jan. 1. To make a reservation, call 519-837-9000.
