Taxpayer rebate cheques are arriving across Ontario — including some issued to people who are dead. Here’s who can cash the cheque

Ontario’s Ministry of Finance indicates any cheques issued to someone who is deceased can be cashed by the executor of the estate.

Ontario taxpayer rebate cheques are landing in mailboxes across the province.

Ontarians have begun to receive their taxpayer rebate cheques — including some that have been issued to people who have died. 

When asked if the province was aware taxpayer rebate cheques have been issued to those who are deceased and how that may have happened, an Ontario Ministry of Finance spokesperson confirmed the province is using the most recent tax data available, “as is standard practice for provincial and federal tax payments.”
