In a new ad, Auston Matthews of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers hit the ice for a challenge to win a Big Mac, showcasing their skills and creativity, and even some competitive banter.Ìý
Connor McDavid and Auston Matthews have been added to the list of iconic McDonald’s athletes to participate in The Showdown exclusively in Canada. They go head-to-head in a battle of trickshots, winner gets lunch.

“First one to miss watches the winner eat,” is the rule the two superstars set as they began their battle in the ad. Calling their trick shots, Matthews and McDavid go toe-to-toe for the coveted Big Mac, attempting to outdo one another in each round.
Matthews even makes his way into the stands, challenging McDavid to score from there like he did, while the latter takes it to the rooftop to see who could nail a billboard. Creativity and character was on full display in an iconic and nostalgic challenge brought back from the ‘90s, McDonald’s said.

“I can’t think of a better lineup – Canada’s favourite game and a classic taste,” said McDavid in a media release. “And the Big Mac-David is headed all the way to the finals.”
“Connor is a force on the ice, but I can bring the heat for sure,” said Matthews in a media release. “As this friendly rivalry heads out of the rink and onto the menu, the Smoky Quarter Papi isn’t afraid of a little extra sauce and is ready to bring big flavour.”

The Showdown menu includes:Â
The Big Mac-David (double Big Mac): Four Canadian beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, and onions, stacked on a toasted sesame seed bun.
The Smoky Quarter Papi (smoky BBQ Quarter Pounder): A quarter pound beef patty topped with smoky BBQ sauce, hickory-smoked bacon strips, crispy onions, pickles and two slices of cheese served on a toasted sesame bun.Ìý
Spicy junior chirpy (spicy buffalo junior chicken): Seasoned chicken, topped with shredded lettuce, spicy buffalo sauce, and mayo-style sauce on a toasty bun.
The hat trick (triple cheeseburger): Three slices of cheese with three Canadian beef patties, pickles, onions, ketchup, and mustard on a toasted bun.
Power play poutine (spicy maple and bacon poutine): Gravy, melty cheese curds, spicy maple drizzle, and crispy hickory-smoked bacon on top of fries.Ìý
Celly sundae: Vanilla soft serve topped with your choice of hot fudge or caramel sauce, finished with popping candy.
McDonald’s dropped the puck on the new menu items on Jan. 7 at participating McDonald’s restaurants across Canada.
