Reusable cups are now a little Friendlier, with the availability of a new cold cup option as well as a reusable coffee cup in select locations. Friendlier and Omnia Packaging are announcing their new, frosted 16 oz cold cup for iced beverages after the success they had with the 16 oz reusable coffee cup last year. Later this year, the two companies will debut a 12 oz reusable coffee cup as well.
They said the cups are made from 100 per cent recycled materials and are durable as well as stylish. Every cup is collected, washed, sanitized and then reused through the Friendlier system.
“The Friendlier reuse system is designed to seamlessly replace any single use packaging item, making sustainable choices more accessible and practical for businesses and customers alike,” said Friendlier CEO Kayli Smith in a statement.
Friendlier’s program is now available across Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia and Alberta. Businesses order the containers they need, serve their food and drinks, and Friendlier picks the containers up for reuse. Their food packaging allows restaurants, businesses and individuals to abandon single-use containers for good.
“Our mission is to simplify the transition to a circular economy, helping businesses keep cups out of landfills while enabling consumers to enjoy their meals and beverages with a positive environmental impact,” said Smith.
She said the partnership with Omnia Packaging has been a fantastic opportunity to broaden their impact across Canada. Combining Omnia Packaging’s expertise in sustainable design with Friendlier’s data-driven solutions has allowed them to create high-quality reusable alternatives.
“Since the very beginning, the co-operation with Friendlier has been empowering and inspiring,” said Andrea Ceri, COO of Omnia Packaging Inc. “Our organizations share common values and objectives in terms of sustainability, and we see potential in the future for additional product ideas.”
So far, Friendlier has surpassed 2.6 million containers reused, which they said has saved 155,490 kg of plastic waste and 21,446,925 litres of water. They have also avoided 450,386 kg of greenhouse gas emissions through the use of their containers. These numbers increase each day.
The company has different sizes and shapes of containers available, like their signature blue coloured rectangular and round ones with clear lids, three sizes of clear containers and even bento-style containers with compartments. They are all fridge, freezer and microwave safe.
Their takeout containers are used in restaurants in ߲ݴýlike the Cornerstone, Miijidaa Café + Bistro and the Wooly Pub, by initiatives like Community FEWD, the SEED and more. Containers are also available at Farm Boy grocery store for their food counters in ߲ݴýand other nearby cities. All locations are listed on and containers can be returned to any collection bin.
