A one-hour special called “The Untold Story of The Sound of Music” has host Diane Sawyer touring Salzburg, Austria, and the Alps with Andrews, revisiting many of the actual locations and reflecting back on the most successful movie musical of all time (when adjusted for inflation).

Many different events are taking place in Austria for the anniversary, with channelling “The Lonely Goatherd” puppet show, with performances of “The Sound of Music” during select times this summer.

The in Austria is a scenic 1.4-kilometre path through local landscapes to the inner Alps. Once the snow melts, enjoy a narrated audio tour on the free SmartGuide app, with stories and behind-the-scenes moments are shared by Nicholas Hammond, 74, who played Friedrich in the film.
And visitors to Salzburg can enjoy The Sound of Music tours by minibus, coach, bike, Segway, rickshaw or on foot, with to 12 iconic filming locations around Salzburg, Lake Wolfgang and Lake Mondsee.

A guest exhibition of the Salzburg Museum starts March 22, which will take place at the hotel. The exhibition “Sound of Music Salzburg — Insight and Outlook,” will show visitors insights into the filming, the Broadway musical and the life of the real von Trapp family as part of a free guided tour.
