SRTX, the Canadian startup that makes the popular “rip-resistant” Sheertex tights, will layoff 40 per cent of its workers due to the looming threat of U.S. tariffs on Canadian imports.Â

“This decision was not made lightly,” the post read. “The layoff is expected to last up to six months, allowing us to operate with the minimum team required to continue production and sales at forecasted levels for 2025.”
Homuth said the announcement of the now-paused U.S. tariffs on Canadian imports was the catalyst for the decision, as 85 per cent of the company’s revenue comes from the U.S.

Homuth said, although the recently announced 30-day pause on tariffs offers “a small window to mitigate the immediate impact” by moving inventory into the U.S., sourcing more U.S.-made materials and exploring cost-saving measures, it’s not enough to fully offset the financial strain.
