The province has provided some key tips to help you avoid falling prey to a scammer.
The Ontario government will only contact you directly in response to a question or query about the rebate you initiated, the province says.
The government will not proactively contact you by text, email or phone to ask for personal information such as your Social Insurance Number, bank account information, or health information.
The government says it will not offer you money or a reward or sign you up for a rebate program.
The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) provides key signs that should raise your eyebrows — and indicate you may be at risk of being scammed.
The CRA says many scams and fraud attempt to imitate government services in order to gain access to your personal and financial information.
It may be a scam if someone:
“If you are in doubt, take a minute to ask yourself why you are being contacted,” the CRA says in its . “It’s OK to ask questions and say no.”
You can . Ontarians can also change their delivery address if they have moved within Ontario.
For delivery address changes, Ontarians can also call ServiceOntario at 1-833-351-0409ǰToll-free 1-888-821-9056.
The province says once the delivery address has been updated, a cheque will be sent to the new address. Any previously mailed cheques will be cancelled.
