Several car companies have issued recalls recently on vehicles sold in Canada.
Here’s a roundup of vehicle recalls reported to Transport Canada between March 4 and 17.
Ineos Automotive
on the 2024 Grenadier.
On certain SUVs, the exterior door button mechanisms may not have been assembled properly and the door buttons could remain stuck and the doors may not latch properly when they are closed. This could cause the doors to open while driving.
“A door that opens suddenly while driving could create the risk of injury and/or increase the risk of a crash,” said the recall, first issued March 7 and updated March 12.
The automaker will notify owners by mail and advise them to take their vehicle to a dealership to replace the door button mechanisms.
Mercedes-Benz
Mercedes-Benz issued a pair of recalls recently.
is on just one 2025 GLA Class SUV.
The rear passenger seat rails may not have been manufactured properly on this single vehicle. As a result, the seats could move in a crash.
“A seat that moves in a crash could create an increased risk of injury,” said the recall, first issued March 7 and updated March 12.
Mercedes-Benz will notify the owner by mail and advise them to take their vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, replace the structure for the rear seats.
is on several vehicle models.
Affected models include 2024 and 2025 model years of the AMG GT, GLC Class and S Class. This recall affects only certain hybrid AMG models.
A software problem could cause the high-voltage starter generator to turn off on some vehicles, and could cause a loss of power to the wheels.
“A sudden loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash,” said the recall, first issued Feb. 24 and updated March 10.
Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail and advise them to take their vehicle to a dealership to update the high-voltage starter generator software.
Ford
Ford has issued multiple recalls. They are listed below one by one.
F-150 Lightning
on the electric 2022 to 2024 F-150 Lightning pickup truck.
On certain vehicles, there could be a problem inside the high-voltage battery and the battery modules could overheat and short circuit.
“A short circuit in the high-voltage battery can create a fire risk,” said the recall, first issued March 2 and updated March 10.
To reduce the safety risk, Ford recommends owners set the maximum charge setting of your vehicle at 80 per cent until the recall repairs are completed. Ford will notify owners by mail and advise them to take their vehicle to a dealership to inspect and replace the high-voltage battery modules, as necessary.
Super Duty trucks
on the 2023 models of the F-250 Super Duty, F-350 Super Duty and F-450 Super Duty. Just 39 vehicles are affected.
This recall only affects trucks equipped with the Pro Trailer Hitch Assist feature.
Recall repairs completed by a Ford dealer during recall 23S46 (Transport Canada recall No. 2023-450) may not have been done correctly on certain trucks and a second repair is required.
A software problem could cause the wrong rear-view camera image to display while reversing under certain conditions. As a result, the hitch or trailer view image may display instead of the default rear-view image. Canadian regulations require the rear-view image to display when reversing.
“A rear-view camera image that doesn’t display properly could reduce a driver’s ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash,” said the recall, first issued March 2 and updated March 10.
Ford will notify owners by mail and advise them to take their truck to a dealership to update the advanced drive assistance system module software.
Ford Maverick and Lincoln Corsair
that impacts a pair of vehicles from two of its brands.
Affected models include the 2022 to 2024 Ford Maverick and 2021 Lincoln Corsair. Just 11 vehicles are affected.
The recall repairs completed by a Ford dealer during recall 24S33 (Transport Canada recall No. 2024-270) may not have been done correctly on some vehicles and a second repair is required.
On certain hybrid vehicles, a software update completed by a Ford dealer could cause the transmission to shift into neutral (N) unexpectedly, which could cause a sudden loss of power to the wheels.
“A loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash,” said the recall, first issued March 2 and updated March 7.
Ford will notify owners by mail and advise them to take their vehicle to a dealership to update the hybrid powertrain control module software.
EcoSport
on the 2021 and 2022 EcoSport.
This recall affects only vehicles equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission.
The front axle shafts may not have been installed properly on some vehicles and the front axle shaft(s) could become damaged and/or separate from the transmission, and cause a sudden loss of power to the wheels. Also, the vehicle could roll away if the vehicle is parked and the parking brake isn’t applied.
“A loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash. A parked vehicle that moves suddenly could create a risk of a crash or an injury,” said the recall, first issued March 2 and updated March 12.
Ford will notify owners by mail and advise them to take their vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, replace the axle shaft(s).
Maverick
on the 2022 Maverick.
On certain vehicles, the recall repairs completed by a Ford dealer during recall 22C24 (Transport Canada recall No. 2022-562) may not have been done correctly on some trucks and a second repair is required.
This recall affects only vehicles equipped with a 2.0-litre EcoBoost engine and towing package.
On some vehicles, a programming error in the control module for the antilock braking system (ABS) could cause the brake lamps to turn on or stay on when the driver is not braking.
“Brake lamps that turn on or stay on when the vehicle is not braking could cause confusion for other drivers and increase the risk of a crash,” said the recall, first issued March 2 and updated March 10.
Ford will notify owners by mail and advise them to take their vehicle to a dealership to update the ABS control module software.
Maverick again
is on the 2022 and 2023 Maverick.
The recall repairs completed by a Ford dealer during recall 24C01 (Transport Canada recall No. 2024-125) may not have been done correctly on some trucks and a second repair is required.
This recall affects only Maverick hybrid models.
A software problem could cause the backlight for the instrument cluster display not to work on some vehicles. As a result, warnings, telltales and gauges may not display properly.
“Safety warnings, telltales and gauges that don’t display properly could increase the risk of a crash,” said the recall, first issued March 2 and updated March 7.
Ford will notify owners by mail and advise them to take their vehicle to a dealership to update the instrument panel cluster software.
Volkswagen and Audi
Volkswagen issued two recalls affecting different model years of the same pair of electric vehicles.
is on the 2024 Volkswagen ID.4 and the 2024 and 2025 Audi Q4 e-tron. It affects more than 12,000 vehicles.
The on-board charger (OCDC) could fail on some vehicles. As a result, the 12 V battery will not charge and could cause a loss of power to the wheels.
This problem will cause warning lights to turn on and warning messages to display before any loss of power.
“A loss of power to the wheels may increase the risk of a crash,” said the recall, first issued Feb. 28 and updated March 10.
The company will notify owners by mail and advise them to take their vehicle to a dealership to replace the on-board charger (OCDC).
is on the 2022 and 2023 Audi Q4 e-tron and 2021 to 2023 Volkswagen ID.4. For the Q4 e-tron model, this recall affects both SUV and Sportback models. More than 7,000 vehicles are affected.
Under certain circumstances, a software problem could cause the ’‘N’’ (Neutral) gear position not to display on the instrument cluster and drivers may not be aware when the transmission is in neutral. If his happens, and brakes or parking brake aren’t used, the vehicle could roll away.
“A vehicle that rolls away could create the risk of an injury or a crash,” said the recall first issued Feb. 26 and updated March 10.
To reduce the safety risk, the automaker recommends for owners to use the parking brake and confirm the parking brake indicator light is on when they park. The company will notify owners by mail and advise them to take their vehicle to a dealership to update the brake control unit software.
BMW
on the 2025 X3. The recall affects just 27 of the SUVs and only certain vehicles equipped with a 2.0-litre engine.
On some vehicles, the connection securing the cable from the 48 V battery to the starter-generator may not have been tightened properly and the connection could loosen and cause a short circuit and/or a loss of power to the wheels.
“A short circuit could increase the risk of a fire. A loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash,” said the recall, first issued Feb. 21 and updated March 10.
BMW will notify owners by mail and advise them to take their vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, tighten the nuts. The dealer will replace the 48 V battery cable and/or the starter-generator, as necessary.
GM and Land Rover
